the mother of all inventions

There are certain modern "inventions" that while I could live with out, I most certainly love them to distraction.
They are:

• TiVo
• Google Reader
• A DSLR
• children

Oh wait, I suppose it is rather safe to say that the last one has been around since the beginning of life on earth... in one form or another. Really, I was trying to not appears as indulgent as the first three make me seem to be.
